Brand storytelling takes many different forms. Some of our favorite opportunities are ones that allow us to explore unique ways of expressing the same message. Such is the case of the Eighth Grade staircase at the University School of Milwaukee. A specific set of stairs at USM are just for the Eighth graders - a privilege for the oldest in the middle school.

Our challenge was creating an experience that accurately reflects the USM brand, remains interesting over time and is relevant to young teenagers. The solution is not one thing but a constellation of things for them. Teachers, administration and students all contributed ideas for this mural. In creating this intricate constellation, we were allowed to make playful connections - Don Quixote (English teacher's contribution) with modern wind turbines (Science teacher), Yankee Doodle Dandy (History teacher) with musical notes (Music teacher). To add a little exclusivity, inspirational quotes were added with a type size readable only for those on the stairs.
